Port Efficiency Management Course
Port efficiency varies widely from country to country and even from region to region but generally, efficiency in ports has become an important determinant of shipping costs and a measure of facilitation of international trade flow. Containerisation has allowed large cost reductions in cargo handling, increasing cargo transhipment, and the creation of hub ports therefore enabling countries or regions take advantage of increasing returns to scale.
Aim
The main aim of this course is to engineer efficient management of port infrastructural and policy variables to achieve efficiency in the operations and management of ports. The concept here is to identify the drivers of port constraints inhibiting efficient port operations and then apply tested efficiency management models to achieve high level of service whilst minimizing costs in all aspects of port logistics and global supply chain management.
Objectives
1. To enable course participants acquire strategic visioning skills to identify constraints,
opportunities and risks in the management of port infrastructure and policy variables and
properly understanding the wider implicating costs of efficient port logistics to international
trade and economic development.
2. To enhance the ability and skills of course participants in negotiating trade disputes and in
persuading as well as influencing partners, staff and stakeholders in reaching agreement in
complex port efficiency management issues with the capability to handle conflicting policy
3. To enhance participants’ knowledge of quantitative and qualitative representation of port
infrastructure and policy variables performances to enable policy formulation, analysis and
review in an aggressively changing efficiency demanding port and maritime industry.
