As container traffic in international shipping continues to increase rapidly consequent growing global trade, the tendency for congestion in ports and subsequent high transaction costs are paramount. Ship owners, ports, container terminal operators, shippers and port users’ profits are reduced drastically as a result. To tackle this perennial problem of congestion in ports, radical and innovative management techniques that would improve efficiency and reduce transaction costs are necessary in ports and container terminals operations and management.
